10:00 am - 4:00 pm with a break for lunch
Teacher: Barbara Bellchambers
Class Description: Have you ever listened to a rain stick?
Traditionally, rain sticks were used by native people of the south during ceremonies at the time of spring planting. They were made of cactus, with the spines pushed inside the cactus, with stones or shells inserted inside. We will make our rain stick from a snake gourd, drilling the holes for spines made of wood. You will have a choice of a variety of materials to put inside your rain stick to make the sound of rain. You should finish making the rain stick. You may have to finish the decorating later depending on the time.
Teacher supplies: All materials except the prepared gourd for members. All materials for non-members.
Students supply: Members will buy and prepare an appropriate gourd in advance of the class. Gourds will be prepared for non-members.
