This gourd was started in a Power Carving Gourd Class. Inspired by the African Fern, the petals of the leaves were outlined and carved. Large open areas were cut with a mini-saw. The inside of the petals were carved to give shape to the petals. The inside of the gourd is painted black, as well as the raised petal edges. Gold covers the inside of the carved petals.
